Public Health Bonaire offers advice on health risks in the country you are visiting and helps you with the correct travel vaccinations.
Different diseases occur abroad than on Bonaire. Some of these are dangerous, such as yellow fever, hepatitis, or typhoid fever. Each country has different travel advice. Public Health Bonaire advises travelers on vaccinations but also provides other travel advice to prevent diseases.
A few examples:
- Vaccinations, such as the one against yellow fever, may be mandatory for travelers to certain countries. Did you know, for example, that vaccination against yellow fever is mandatory for travelers who have been in a high-risk area, such as Colombia or Brazil, in the 10 days prior to arrival on Bonaire? This also applies to babies from 9 months old. Public Health Bonaire provides advice on which vaccinations are necessary for your travel destination.
- Besides mosquitoes, cats, dogs, monkeys, and bats can also transmit diseases. Public Health Bonaire advises travelers on the best course of action if they are bitten or scratched by animals.
- Malaria is common in the Amazon region. Malaria tablets can help prevent malaria infection. Public Health Bonaire advises travelers to areas where malaria occurs and also issues prescriptions for malaria tablets.
- Some people suffer from altitude sickness when traveling to high-altitude areas, such as Machu Picchu in Peru or La Paz in Bolivia. Public Health Bonaire provides advice on preventing altitude sickness and advises on what to do in case of symptoms of altitude sickness.
