GGD Bonaire / Salubridat Públiko zet gezonde schoolmaaltijden voort

04 September 2026

We work together to create a healthy school environment.

The Healthy School Meals initiative (Kuminda di Skol Saludabel) will continue. Healthy School Meals is an initiative of the Public Entity of Bonaire (OLB). The initiative is led by GGD Bonaire / Public Health. In the new school year, students in public elementary and secondary schools will continue to receive fresh and varied fruit at school every day.

Through Healthy School Meals, the OLB aims to ensure that all children on Bonaire have the opportunity to grow up healthy and develop properly. Healthy nutrition helps children grow, learn, and stay active. It also helps prevent health problems.

Healthy Nutrition at School

All students in public elementary and secondary schools (approximately 4,300) receive fresh and varied fruit at school every day. Thanks to our collaboration with schools, local suppliers, and other partners, we are able to provide fruit to students through the “Healthy School Meals” program.

In addition, students at Rayo di Solo, Kolegio Strea Briante, and the Special Education Centers of the Bonaire School Community receive a healthier breakfast. The School Nutrition Foundation also receives a grant to provide packed lunches for students who cannot bring food from home.

The initiative will be further expanded

The “Healthy School Meals” program will be expanded step by step in the coming years. The goal is to turn this into a broader initiative promoting healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle at school.

As part of this, GGD Bonaire / Public Health aims, among other things, to offer more vegetables and locally grown fruit and to involve parents and caregivers more closely. There will also be a greater focus on healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle during school activities, such as Fiesta di Salú and vacation activities. In addition, schools will receive support in offering healthier options in the cafeteria.

We create a healthy school environment together

GGD Bonaire / Public Health is therefore collaborating with schools, suppliers, and other partners. Together, we ensure that children on Bonaire have the opportunity to grow up healthy and develop to their fullest potential.
